The Eucharistic Miracle of Vilakkannur

On November 15, 2013, at Christ the King Church in Vilakkannur, Kerala, Fr. Thomas Pathickal witnessed an extraordinary sign during Holy Qurbana. At the moment of the Epiclesis prayer, a sign began to appear in the center of the Sacred Host, and within moments, the image of the Holy Face of Jesus became clearly visible. Scientific studies found that the image was formed from the same material as the rest of the Host, with no external substance found to have influenced its formation.

Following theological and scientific investigations, the Vatican’s Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith declared on March 19, 2025, that there was no objection to recognizing the Vilakkannur Eucharistic phenomenon as an extraordinary event. On May 31, 2025, Apostolic Nuncio to India Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli made the official proclamation at Christ the King Church, Vilakkannur.
